Workshop Report/Album

 

The 2019 International Workshop on Intelligentized Welding Manufacturing IWIWM2019-LEX was held Nov. 8-10, 2019 at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, Kentucky, USA. The workshop was chaired by Professor YuMing Zhang, Fellow of AWS, SME and ASME and James Boyd Professor of the University of Kentucky, Professor Shanben Chen, National Distinguished Professor and Professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Dr. Zhili Feng, Fellow of AWS and IIW and Leader and Distinguished Technical Staff of the Welding and Joining at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

 

Six keynote speeches were delivered by distinguished leaders in welding and automation including Michael Johnson (Professor and Chair, Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Kentucky), Jian Chen (PhD, R&D Staff, Oak Ridge National Laboratory), Blair Carlson (PhD, Lab Group Manager, General Motors R&D), Jingshan Li (IEEE Fellow; Senior Editor – IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering; Senior Editor – IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters; Professor of Industrial Engineering, University of Wisconsin – Madison), Heping Chen (Professor of Electrical Engineering, Taxes State University), and Guillermo Alvarez Bestard (Professor of Electrical Engineering, University of Brasilia. Twenty-six researchers attended the workshop on Saturday Nov. 9, 2019 including the Group Leader of Welding Automation at Edison Welding Institute (EWI) Ms. Connie Reichert and Vice -President of Guangzhou Risong Intelligent Technology Holding Co., Ltd Dr. ErBin Liu.

 

 

20 Papers were presented in four tracks – Keynotes, Machine Learning and Intelligence, Robotics and Robotic Welding/Additive Manufacturing, and Trends and Opportunities. 5 young authors, 35 years old or younger, were awarded the Young Author Award including Peng Wang (Assistant Professor, University of Kentucky), Jun Xiao (Associate Professor, Beijing University of Technology), Biyun Xie (Assistant Professor, University of Kentucky), Yifu Li (PhD Candidate, Virginia Tech) and Qiyue Wang (PhD Candidate, University of Kentucky) with a certificate and University of Kentucky coffee mug.

 

On Sunday, Nov. 10, Professor YuMing Zhang and Mr. Qiyue Wang hosted the visit of Dr. Blair Carlson of General Motors, Professor Guillermo Alvarez Bestard of University of Brasilia, Dr. ErBin Liu and Mr. Guobao Tang of Guangzhou Risong Intelligent Technology Holding Co., Ltd, Dr. Zongyao Chen of Air Liquide Delaware Research and Technology Center, Mr. Ning Xiao of STUAA Automation CO.,LTD, Mr. Yanxin Cui of South China University of Technology, et al., to the Welding Research Laboratory and the Institute for Sustainable Manufacturing at the University of Kentucky.
